Tuberculosis Screening

TUBERCULOSIS: The risk of tuberculosis is very low in the general population but certain attributes increase the chances of contracting the disease. If any of the following apply to any of your children please inform us and we will screen your children more frequently than indicated:

1)   Your child has any household members or significant contacts with known or strongly suspected tuberculosis (includes contacts incarcerated in jail in the past 5 years).

2)   Your child has recently immigrated from, traveled to or has had significant contact with an immigrant of Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, or Africa.

3)   Your child or a household member has HIV/AIDS.

4)   Your child is exposed to residents of nursing homes, HIV infected people, the homeless, users of illicit drugs, migrant farm workers, or institutionalized adolescents or adults.

5)   You live in an area with a high tuberculosis rate.

6 ) Your child has a significant underlying disease (such as diabetes, immunodeficiency, renal failure, cancer, cystic fibrosis).  A PPD will be placed on the forearm and it MUST be read in 48-72 hours by one of our trained medical staff in order for the result to be valid.
