General Illness in the Infant
 
 

ILLNESSES It is wise to avoid crowded places and large groups of people with your infant during the first 4-6 weeks in order to avoid unnecessary exposure to diseases. Call us during the first 3 months if your baby has:

1. Irritability or shows a significant behavior change.

2. Poor or infrequent feedings.

3. Significant diarrhea or bloody stools.

4. A persistent diaper rash.

5. Bleeding or persistent oozing from the umbilical cord stump.

6. Redness, rash, or a foul odor around the cord.

7. Persistent vomiting.

8. Persistent or recurrent eye discharge and/or redness.

9. Infrequent urination.

10. Redness or increased swelling of the breasts.

11. Significant body rash

12. Fever greater than 100° rectal
