Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are you accepting new patients?

Yes! We’re always happy to welcome new patients to RTC Pediatrics.

Before we schedule a well visit for a new patient, we ask that prior medical records be sent to our office. This helps our providers prepare in advance, keeps your wait time shorter, and ensures we allow enough time to address any additional concerns.

For insurance purposes, please make sure your child’s last well visit was at least one year ago. If the full chart isn’t available in time, we kindly ask that your previous provider fax over your child’s vaccine records and the most recent well visit summary as soon as possible.

To see a list of accepted insurance plans, please visit the “Office Info – Insurances” section of our website.

We’re excited to meet you — welcome aboard!

  • I just gave birth. When should I schedule my baby's first doctor visit?

Congratulations! We recommend scheduling your newborn’s first visit 1–2 days after discharge from the hospital. This visit allows us to check your baby’s weight, feeding, and overall health, and to answer any early questions you may have.

Our staff understands how important this first visit is, and we’ll make every effort to schedule it promptly. Just give us a call as soon as you have a discharge date — we’re here to support you every step of the way.

  • What days are you open?

    Our office is open:

     Monday through Thursday 8am-6pm

     Friday 8am-5pm

     Saturday is by appointment only

  • How do I make an appointment?

To make an appointment please call our office. To ensure the best use of time for both our providers and patients, all of our office visits are by appointment only. We ask that you arrive at our office 10 - 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. This will allow you to complete any necessary paperwork and to update any demographic and insurance changes. If you must cancel an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible so we can offer that time to someone else.

Emergencies arise. We will advise you if there is going to be a delay in seeing you. If your schedule won't allow you to wait, we will be happy to reschedule your appointment. We do appreciate your patience and cooperation during our busy times and we will make every effort to keep your wait time to a minimum.

  • May I request a specific Pediatrician for my visit?

We do our best to schedule your child’s well visits and follow-up appointments with the provider you prefer. However, for same-day sick visits or urgent needs, your child may be seen by any of our available providers to ensure timely care.

We encourage families to get to know all of our providers whenever possible. Each member of our team brings compassionate, high-quality care — and building a relationship with more than one provider can make scheduling easier and ensure continuity of care when your preferred provider is unavailable.

  • How often does my child need to be seen in the office?

Our routine health maintenance visit schedule follows the American Academy of Pediatrics vaccine guideline for children.

  • Why does my child need to receive vaccinations?

Immunizations are a series of shots given to children at different ages to help ward off serious, and potentially fatal, childhood diseases. Making sure your child receives immunizations when scheduled is the best way to help protect your child from potentially fatal diseases. According to The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), vaccinations have reduced the number of infections from vaccine-preventable diseases by more than 90%.

  • What immunizations will my child receive?

To help protect your child from many serious infectious diseases, we follow the immunization schedule recommended by The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Please discuss your immunization questions and concerns with any of our pediatricians.

  • My child needs to see a specialist. What do I do?

If your insurance plan requires a referral, please notify our office of your specialist appointment at least 5 business days in advance. Most referrals are processed electronically and sent directly to the specialist’s office within 3–4 business days. Our staff can confirm whether your insurance processes referrals electronically.

    For urgent referrals:

If one of our providers determines that your child needs to see a specialist urgently, we’ll initiate the referral immediately. In these cases, we ask that you remain in the office while we complete the process, so you can head directly to your specialist with everything in place.

Please note: We are unable to backdate referrals.

  • When will I receive lab or test results?

You will receive a call quickly with any lab results that require urgent attention. Other abnormal lab results will be addressed promptly by the provider that ordered the labs or tests. Normal values are reviewed and addressed by the provider that ordered them.

  • How do I obtain a prescription refill?

Please call our office and follow the prompts for our prescription refill line. Allow three business days for all routine prescription refills. For prescriptions that require prior authorization from your insurance company, please plan ahead to allow at least three to five days for refill approval.

  • Does your practice support breastfeeding mothers?

Yes — very much so. At RTC Pediatrics, we are proud to support breastfeeding families and have a lactation consultant on staff to provide expert, personalized care.

Our providers are experienced in guiding mothers through the breastfeeding journey, and our in-house lactation consultant is available to help with everything from latching and positioning to milk supply concerns and feeding plans. Whether you're just starting out or need ongoing support, we’re here for you every step of the way.

  • Can I meet my pediatrician before my baby is born?

Yes, in fact we strongly encourage parents-to-be to visit our office for one of our prenatal classes. This is a great way to get acquainted with our office and our providers. During this visit, we will answer any questions that you have about our practice and your new baby. Visit our expectant parent's page for more information.

  • When should my baby start solid foods?

As all children are different, we advise following several appropriate steps to advance your child's diet based on age and development. Please discuss these steps with our providers at your well care visit.
